Who is Paul Courtney?

A record collector since the 70s, I got the House Music bug in the late 80s and I have been forever infected. In 1990 I witnessed the Rave scene explode on a massive scale leaving a lasting impression on my then 18 year old self. I soon began throwing my own warehouse parties in Herne Hill before being asked by Basement Jaxx to play at their immense Brixton events. This followed with a residency at Plan B, now known as Phonox.

Some of my past gigs include countless guest slots at Turnmills, George IV, Jamm, the Dogstar, and festivals including a main stage appearance after Bastille at Festibelly in 2012 and going head-to-head with DJ and broadcaster Georgie Rogers at ‘Le Disco’ (silent disco) again at Festibelly in 2014 (under the name of DJ Bongoloid). My past radio shows have been hosted on Pulse FM, Soulradiouk, LWR and the legendary Unknown FM. You can tune in live every Friday evening from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm on Back2BackFM

Paul was a consummate professional. He arrived at the venue early to perform sound checks and test all equipment and was onsite assisting with music and sound long before his set had officially started. He also ensured our silent disco went smoothly, again not strictly his job. Before the actual date he was proactive about sourcing any special requests to ensure that he had all the right music on the day but I fully trusted his professional judgment when it came to reading and playing to the crowd. His set evolved through the night as the crowd changed and the oldies went to bed and we danced our socks off til the wee hours. Paul is officially my favourite DJ!
